Kai
Shin Kai - America began as a dream, opening its doors in 1996 under the
name of Aiki-Gym Aikido Club. After more than 20 years in the Armed Forces David and Veronica settled in St.
Louis, Missouri, where they could begin to build the Aiki-Gym. In November 1996, David and some
friends built a 16x16 foot mat covered floor in the barn behind his home. He began
teaching classes in this makeshift dojo and after a year was ready to expand. In October
1997 David and Veronica began building a Dojo adjacent to their home. It took one year to
build the Dojo, which opened for its first class in November 1998. The dojo
encompassed about
900 square feet of mat space and a small area for weight training.
Sensei's David and Veronica Brown closed the doors to the St Louis Aiki-Gym in October 2003 to relocate to Tampa, Florida. Although the Aiki-Gym Aikido Club has yet to establish a club under its familiar name; Kai Shin Kai - America has opened its doors in Tampa. Their first club to open goes by the name of Kai Shin Kai - Tampa, and is located on MacDill AFB. Kai Shin Kai - America and all of its affiliated clubs are dedicated to the development of the Body, Mind and Spirit of all who attend. Sensei Brown has also studied Kendo and Iaido, to enhance his knowledge of swordsmanship and basic movement.
